INTERACTION DESIGN × MIXED REALITY

Designing meaningful human experiences across physical and virtual worlds.

I am Kris Shieh, a PhD researcher at Murdoch University and an interaction designer working across social MR, gamification, spatial interaction, and human-computer interaction.

01 / ABOUT

I connect design research, emerging technology, and playful interaction.

My work investigates how mixed reality can support social connection, identity expression, collaboration, and meaningful participation in shared physical spaces.

I combine research-led design, prototyping, visual communication, and iterative user evaluation. My current research focuses on an affordance-driven gamification framework and its implementation in a co-located multi-user mixed reality prototype.

I am particularly interested in experiences where technology becomes less visible and human behaviour, social interpretation, and shared activity become the centre of the design.

03 / PHD RESEARCH

PhD research at Murdoch University

How can affordance-driven gamification support low-pressure, reciprocal, and socially meaningful interaction in co-located mixed reality?

My PhD research at Murdoch University translates theoretical affordances into implemented MR mechanisms and evaluates whether those mechanisms remain understandable, reliable, and socially useful when multiple people interact in the same physical environment.
